Berks County Jail System Supervising Chaplain
Larry was raised in the Nazarene tradition and in 10th grade his family relocated to Reading and transferred to the Methodist Church. He was unsettled in his faith journey and later found acceptance and warmth in the Lutheran Church, which is where he met his wife and best friend, Marcia, 50 years ago. Her support and friendship have been a real source of strength in his life.
Larry served three years in the Army during the Vietnam Crisis, and spent over 30 years in Industry. He has served the Lutheran church in numerous capacities over many decades. His goal from high school was to be a Minister. Larry began his education to achieve this goal while working in industry. Upon completion of his education, and after CPE (Clinical Pastoral Education), he felt a much stronger call to chaplaincy.
He served as chaplain at Berks Heim for a few years, with occasional work in the jail. Eventually, Larry was called to full-time ministry as jail system chaplain. He now serves as supervising chaplain within the jail, where he ministers daily to inmates.
