Celtic Worship at Christ Church UCC
Sunday, March 11th: 9:45am
Christ Church UCC
The Shanachians, a Celtic and British-Isles folk-influenced group from the Lehigh Valley, will perform at the morning worship service at Christ Church United Church of Christ, Temple, on Sunday, March 11, at 9:45 a.m.
The group consists of Ken Purcell, keyboards; Dave “Mitch” Miller, violin and bodhran; Rich Dodson, violin and mandolin; and Laura Aidan Malczon, vocals. In addition, all members of the group will perform vocals.
The worship emphasizes Celtic spirituality. One of the prime characteristics of Celtic Christianity is its love and respect for the natural world. Its spirituality reflects a sense of wonder and awe at the divine residing in everything. It desires to explore the unknown and to establish increased intimacy with God, and the healing of the body and soul. It expresses our need for belonging and our resting place in God.
Parts of the liturgy are from the Iona Community in Scotland and the Celtic tradition.
Celtic spirituality influenced much of northern Europe, including Germany and the British Isles. Many of the Celtic traditions found their way into the culture and heritage of the Pennsylvania Germans.
